Common reasons for scan?

- To identify presence, location and size of rotator cuff tears.

- To assess tears/dislocation of the long head tendon of biceps.

- In cases of frozen shoulder/adhesive capsulitis, ultrasound examination can used to exclude other pathologies and support the diagnosis.

*Please note, this scan is not for assessment of the armpit, breast or lymph nodes.

What can be checked?

- The main rotator cuff tendons.

- Long head tendon of biceps.

- Posterior glenohumeral joint, for evidence of fluid/effusion.

- Superficial acromioclavicular joint

Preparation?

- Access to the front and back of the shoulder/upper arm region is needed.

- There are gowns to change into, in the examination room, if required.

- Female clients may prefer to wear a strap top (or strapless top) to allow easier access to the shoulder region, so that a gown does not need to be worn.

Report:

You will be given a printed copy and/or emailed an electronic copy of the ultrasound scan report.

Images from the scan can be purchased at the reception desk. Please note: Due to various guidelines stated by the Society of Radiographers (Recording of Images and Clinical Discussions, SOR, 2019), photographs cannot be taken during the examination room at Dragon Ultrasound.
