Men’s Checks: Upper and Lower Abdomen.

Price:

(£149)

Total appointment length:

30 minutes.

Common reasons for scan?

Right sided/upper abdominal pain, jaundice, abnormal liver function test results, upper abdominal mass, gall bladder polyps/stones/disease, persistent bloating/abdominal distension.

What will be checked?

The following structures can be examined: Liver, abdominal aorta, common bile duct, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder, and prostate. Pre-micturition and post-micturition bladder volumes will also be recorded. Please note, certain factors, such as a person's body shape/BMI or overlying bowel gas, can make some structures difficult to see e.g., the presence of bowel gas may prevent part of the pancreas being seen.

*Please note, this scan is not for assessment of groins/hernias.

Preparation?

Do not eat anything for 6 hours before the examination. Drinking water is fine, but no coffee/tea, with milk in it.

A full bladder is also needed for the scan. Please finish drinking one pint of water, one hour before your appointment time.

Report:

You will be given a printed copy and/or emailed an electronic copy of the ultrasound scan report.
