Common reasons for scan?

  • Finding a new lump on the body.

  • A lump on or just under the skin of the abdomen, which is becoming tender and/or growing in size.

  • Follow-up of a lump/hernia on the abdomen that has been scanned before, to look for changes in size/appearance.

  • Checking for evidence of a side strain injury (strain of the oblique abdominal muscles).

* Groin hernias, lumps on the neck, groin or breast regions, and arteries/veins of the leg/arm are not scanned at Dragon Ultrasound.

What can be checked?

  • The superficial tissue underneath the skin.

  • The anterior abdominal wall fascia, to look for lumps, defects and hernias.

  • The underlying muscle, to look for evidence of tears.

  • Lumps can be assessed to see if they have features which may be simple/benign, or if more complex/unusual features are seen, the sonographer will be able to offer advice on what further follow-up may be needed.

Preparation?

  • Access to the skin at the region of the lump is needed.

Report:
