Common reasons for scan?
Pain around the knee, in particular, if looking for the following:
Effusion (fluid in the joint).
Tendinitis.
Bursitis.
Popliteal cyst (Baker's cyst).
Quadriceps/Patellar tendon tear.
What areas are examined?
Quadriceps and patellar tendons.
Supra-patellar, pre-patellar, superficial and deep infra-patellar bursae.
Medial and lateral collateral ligaments.
Pes anserine tendons and bursa.
Iliotibial band.
Biceps femoris insertion.
Politeal fossa.
Semimemranosus/medial gastrocnemius tendons/bursa.
Preparation?
Access to the skin from the mid-upper thigh, to the mid-lower leg is needed. Wearing loose-fitting shorts, or loose-fitting trousers that can be rolled up high above the knee, will allow good access to the region to be scanned.
Report:
You will be given a printed copy and/or emailed an electronic copy of the ultrasound scan report.

Images from the scan can be purchased at the reception desk. Please note: Due to various guidelines stated by the Society of Radiographers (Recording of Images and Clinical Discussions, SOR, 2019), photographs cannot be taken during the examination room at Dragon Ultrasound.
